Foucault's pendulumn rehanged at the Pantheon in 1995. 1)
The French Physicist Foucault hung a huge pendulum from the dome of the Pantheon in Paris in 1851, and proved in fine style the rotation of the earth to the general public. The pendulum had a 28 kilogram sphere hung on a 67 meter steel cable, and had a 16 second cycle1).

At the time in the 19th century, almost nobody believed in the Ptolemaic system (in which the heavens moved instead of the earth), however not many people who

believed from the bottom of their hearts

that the earth was revolving were around either. The massive pendulum blew away people's doubts as it gradually changed course4).
